CONTENTS
In the course we will study some issues related to production management in companies, all of which are related to how a company works in order to keep the production competitive.
The course provides an in-depth knowledge about how activities and resources, both inside and outside the production, affect the costs of the company. The students will also aquire skills about how to analyze and approach problems that have to be overcome in order to make the company efficient in relation to its competitors.
In the course several practical models and methods will be discussed, e.g. inventory models, linear-programming, simulation and planning & cost controls (ABC). We will critically analyze these models and methods, especially in relation to overall firm profitability.
We will discuss production in a systemic perspective. The problem of conflicting goals within the production department and between the production department and other areas (e.g. sales, engineering, construction) is of special interest.
