COURSE AIM
To train the student, individually and in a team, to formulate and solve given task in the field of signal processing. Application areas are telecommunication or general measurement problems such as extracting information from signals in biomedical engineering, speech coding and recognition, acoustic emission etc. The aim is also to deepen the knowledge of fundamental principles and give an introduction to the frontier of research.

CONTENTS
The course result will to a high degree depend on the commitment of the students. The examiner defines an industrial problem which shall be solved by the students. The students plan and administer their work by themselves. The progress of the project is reported at weekly meetings. At the end of the course the results are presented at a public seminar and a written final report is required. The students shall read and present new scientific journal articles connected to the course theme. A course in information retrieval is included. A study trip can also be included.

TEACHING
As introduction to the course groups of students are assigned new scientific journal articles in connection to the theme of their projekt. In the main part of the course algorithms are implemented, often with digital signal processors (DSP). Teaching in this part is mainly discussions where the teacher helps the groups forward towards a solution.

EXAMINATION
Every group documents the solution to their problem with approved written reports and oral presentations at a public seminar. Only the course grades approved and not approved will be given.
