COURSE AIM
The students should have acquired knowledge and understanding of: -the conditions in the labour market, -the development of the welfare state, -basic social geography, -research traditions and methods of social science, The aim of the course is also to give practice in how to form research problems and carry out an individual research assignment.

CONTENTS
The Working Life -The employment policy during the 20th century. -Issues of labour market - supply and demand, education, environment. -The parties in the labour market. Legal Systems of the Welfare State -A survey over the legal matters and the construction of the legal system. -Sociology of law. Social Geography -Basic social geography. -Population and colonization geography. Topical Social Issues -Areal industries. -Method and theory of Social Science. Research traditions, research methods. -Environmental issues from a national and international perspective. -Issues concerning equality of opportunity and values. -Paper.

TEACHING
Lectures, lessons, groupe practices.

EXAMINATION
Written and oral examination. The examination of the paper takes place at a seminare.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass, Distinction.
