COURSE AIM
The course should illuminate possibilities of outdoor education to: -give children positive experiences of natural environment, excitement and adventure -to work individually and group strengthening with children -to develop children«s understanding and commitment of environmental and social issues -to give children understanding of the relation between health and to be in the natural environment. The course should give the student positive emotional experiences of natural environment as well as knowledge of nature-culture-outdoor life. The student«s ability to see completeness and coherences and also to reflect, evaluate and make ethical assessments will be developed. The course should show new methods to work with outdoor education where imagination and creativity are important parts. The students should be able to apply their knowledge at planning and carrying-through outdoor education with children, within the local area as well as outdoor education at an other district.

CONTENTS
* Introduction * From Prehistorical age to Present Times (2 1/2 day) Natural and cultural historical perspective * Adventure education (2 1/2 day) Learning built on excitement and imagination experiences in the natural environment * Theory and planning (2 weeks) Lectures, individual work as well as preperations of outdoor education * Outdoor education (7-8 days) Experiences and knowledge of the course are applied on children. * Seminars (3 days) Evaluations and reflections. Assessments of individual works and group works.

TEACHING
The education should be them-based. A practical-concrete way of working is important. Lectures, individual works and group works.

EXAMINATION
The students will be graded on individual works, group works and their active participation in all items. The week of outdoor education and the seminars are part of the examination.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
