COURSE AIM
The course will give knowledge of the basic methods for analysis of fluids in rest and in motion. Applications are given on technological important cases such as pipe flow, pumps and turbines.

CONTENTS
The extent of each part is given in %. Hydrostatics (15%) Pascal's law, centre of pressure, hydrostatic forces on plane and curved surfaces. Archimedes' principle, stability. Basic laws for fluids (30%) Physical properties of fluids, viscosity, continuity and energy equations, momentum laws. Dimensional analysis (10%) Similarity rules, P-theorem, modell testing. Pipe flow (15%) Laminar/turbulent flow, friction factors, loss factors, surface roughness, drag reduction. Pumps and turbines (20%) The centrifugal pump: Velocity diagram, pump equation, similarity laws, pump characteristics. Cavitation. Pumps and pipe systems. Impulse and reaction turbines. Installations. Laborations (10%) 1. Pipe flow 2. Pump characteristics

TEACHING
Lectures, classroom teaching and laboratory experiment.

EXAMINATION
Written examination with differentiated grades. Well conducted homework assignments give credit. Passing the course requires completed lab reports.
