COURSE AIM
To give an overview of the elements of energy systems engineering and possible process alternatives for generation of electricity, process heat and hot water for district heating, to give understanding of process limitations for different types of conversion processes, to give ability to carry out heat balance calculations for thermal processes, estimate the capital investment and annual costs for energy plants and estimate the supply reliability of an energy system.

CONTENTS
Lectures: The energy situation in Sweden and globally. The course of an energy project. Load estimation and load planning. Different types of costs. Estimation of the capital investment. Load sharing between several units. Reliability engineering. Elements and limitations of steam power plants, gas turbine power plants and combined power plants. Heat balance calculations. Plant control. Natural gas distribution. District heating. Electricity transmission and distribution. Renewable energy sources. Environmental impacts from the energy system. Project study: An actual case study. New project selected each year.
