PREREQUISITES
Quantum Physics.

COURSE AIM
The purpose is to present the basic theory of atomic physics, with special attention to its foundations in quantum physics. In addition, an important aspect will be the experimental visulization of atomic physics, in particular through applied analytical methods.

CONTENTS
The structure of atoms and molecules, radiation and scattering processes, effects of electric and magnetic fields. Spectroscoptical methods applied in research and industrial laboratories, utilizing X-rays, photo electrons, thermal neutrons (including XPS and ESCA analysis), magnetic resonance (e.g. ESR and NMR), microwaves and light (IR, visible, UV and Raman scattering).

TEACHING
Class lectures covers theory in addition to problem solution seminars. Compulsory seminars and laboratory exercises.
