PREREQUISITES
Swedish A, linguistics, 30 credits or Swedish A, literature, 30 credits.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide: - basic knowledge of the history of the Swedish language and regional variations and dialects - basic insight into children's linguistic development - basic insight into the Nordic languages - basic knowledge of drama in different media - an overview of fiction from Norrland - basic insight into research methodology resulting in the production of an essay in the field of linguistics or the history of literature.

CONTENTS
Module 1. Dialects and the history of language, 6 credits. Module 2. Children's linguistic development, 3 credits. Module 3. The Nordic languages, 4.5 credits. Module 4. Drama, the theatre and mass media, 6 credits. Module 5. Literature of Norrland, 4.5 credits. Module 6. Essay, 6 credits.

TEACHING


EXAMINATION
The course is assessed continuously, through assignments and through written tests in modules 1-4. The essay will be discussed in an essay seminar. Each student is also expected to be the opponent of a fellow student's essay. The course will be graded as above.
