COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide a firm foundation for using German practically in speech and writing and some knowledge within such fields as; German linguistics, German literature, German culture and German social conditions. The course consists of grammar, the history of the language, literature and cultural studies. The intention of the course is to provide knowledge and proficiency for professions where good competence in German is required.
CONTENTS
Module 1. German grammar, 4.5 credits.
Module 2. Written proficiency, 6 credits.
Module 3. Oral proficiency, 6 credits.
Module 4. German literature and the history of literature, 6 credits.
Module 5. Conversation and cultural studies, 3 credits.
Module 6. The development of the German language; alternatively, German business correspondence and texts, 4.5 credits.
TEACHING
EXAMINATION
Module 2. The national translation test from and into German (4.5 credits), short essay (1.5 credits). The tests will be assessed separately.
Module 3. Regular and active participation in the teaching is required
(3 credits) and oral presentations will be assessed in the conversation and literary course (3 credits).
Module 4. Continuous assessment of participation in the literary seminars (3 credits) a shorter, written literary essay related to the course (3 credits). This should comprise 10-15 pages.
Module 5. Active participation (1.5 credits), oral and written reports of a suitable theme from the course (1.5 credits).
Module 6. Active participation (1.5 credits) and written test in the history of the language alternatively business correspondence (optional) (3 credits).
All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the course the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 18 credits, which should include the tests in oral and written proficiency. Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. At the end of August there is a resit for students that did not pass the last tests at the end of the Spring term. The students that pass the tests can not resit them to obtain higher grades.
