PREREQUISITES
General eligibility with at least grade 3 from a 3 year upper secondary school course programme or equivalent qualifications.

COURSE AIM
The main aim of the course is to improve language skills and to establish a firm foundation for the practical usage of French. These skills should include a good comprehension of French texts and the everyday spoken language and provide the students with the ability to express themselves in relatively good French both orally and in writing. The course should also provide some knowledge of modern fiction and of the cultural, political and social conditions of French-speaking countries, mainly France.

Module 1. Written proficiency (7.5 credits) Module 2. Oral proficiency (7.5 credits) Module 3. Modern literature and non-fiction (12 credits) Module 4. Cultural studies (3 credits)

TEACHING


EXAMINATION
Module 1. Translation test (6 credits) as well as essay assignments (1.5 credits). Module 2. Phonetics and pronunciation test (1.5 credits). Speech proficiency will be assessed through active participation and the proven ability to use French reasonably correctly and fluently (6 credits). Module 3. Active participation is required as is completion of the oral and written assignments ( 12 credits). Module 4. Written test (3 credits). Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the course the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 15 credits, which should include the translation test. The students that pass the tests can not resit them to obtain higher grades.
