COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to make the students familiar with psychological theories, concepts and methods, and their applications within the field of man-machine interaction. The knowledge may be applied to the design of systems that combines efficiency with user friendliness and a good work environment with special emphasis on different conditions among users in terms of age and gender.

CONTENTS
Introduction (6%). The development of psychology. Fundamental conceptions and theories. Summary of man-machine studies. Psychological processes (56%). Motivation and stress-psychology. Theory of signal detection. Decision making and judgement processes. Logic and problem solving. Memory. Skill acquisition. The psychology of language. Methods (10%). Experimental and quasi-experimental methods. Design (28%). Application of cognitive psychology to the analysis of user interfaces of information systems. OperatorÕs tasks in process control.

TEACHING
Lectures, seminars and compulsory laboratory work, and assignments.

EXAMINATION
Written examination and compulsory laboratory work, and assignments. Correction of examination according to alternative A in ÒRegler för tentamenÓ. Course grades as above.
