COURSE AIM
The course gives an extended introduction to mining and civil engineering for underground construction of tunnels, power plants, rock storage rooms etc. It includes unit operations (drilling, blasting, loading etc.) with theoretical approach, technical descriptions, resource demands and environmental aspects.
CONTENTS
Drilling: Rock drilling principles (e.g. hammer drilling, rotary drilling) considering machine design, fields of application, resource requirements (personnel, machines, investments) and working environment aspects. Precision drilling. Computer application.
Rock blasting: Different types of explosives, charging methods and initiation methods considering blasting effects, fields of application and environmental influences. Charge calculations and drill hole data. Computer application. Safety regulations.
Loading and transport: Loading and transport methods with reference to fields of application, resource demands and environmental influences. Dimensioning of mine winders. Safety regulations. Computer application.
Ventilation: Technical descriptions with dimensioning examples. Computer application.
Drifting: Methods for drifting of tunnels, ramps, raises, shafts and rock excavations, concerning technical, economic and environmental aspects.
Full face boring: Methods and machines for full face boring of tunnels, raises and shafts.
Preinvestigation methods.
