COURSE AIM
The students should at the end of the course have knowledge about: - children«s development of reading and writing as well as relations between spoken language and written language, - significance of the play for children«s and young people«s development and learning, - acquire knowledge and skills about how you positively can stimulate children«s language development, - develop skills to be able to stimulate concept formation in everyday situations, - take part of topical research within the area. The students should acquire: - teaching methods for children«s development of reading and writing, that has its base in existing knowledge and experiences.

CONTENTS
¥ Role of the language, concept formation ¥ Language development - development of reading - development of writing ¥ Methodical items that are aimed to stimulate development of reading and writing in the everyday work ¥ Increase consciousness of how to protect daily recurrent situations in pre-school/day-care centre for school-age children to be able to stimulate concept formation.

TEACHING
Lectures, seminars, laboratory practices, fiels studies and work in study groups.

EXAMINATION
The students will be graded on written and oral examination, individual and in groups.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
