PREREQUISITES
Basic course.
COURSE AIM
- To broaden and deepen the students knowledge of political theory as well as other areas in the discipline of political science.
- To give an understanding of methods and technics used in social science.
- To train ones ability to treat questions within social science by writing and defending a scientific thesis.
CONTENTS
Course A: Political Theory.
- How the political variety was observed by prominant figures within the discipline.
- Classics like Marx, Weber and Durkheim are given an important scope in this course but even modern political theory is brought up.
Course B: Own Choice 1-6
1: Basic Theori of Science.
- To give a basic understanding of science theory as well as an introduktion into scientific working methods.
- A view of mankind and mans nature.
- The concepts science and scientificness and also the meaning theese concepts have in different ideas of science theory.
2: The New East Europe.
- Political systems in the former USSR and East Europe.
- The historical developement until 1989.
- Analysis of the communistic systems collapse.
- The building of a new democratic society.
3: Political Parties and the Moulding of Public Opinion.
- Political parties roll as mediaters of political ideas between voters and descision makers.
- Comparitive study of political parties in other West European countries.
4: European Integration.
- Deals with the ongoing European integration.
- A brief look at a few integration theories and the integration process after WWII.
- A study of the central political areas of influence within the union.
5: Swedish Politics.
- To widen and depeen the students knowledge of the following areas: Actual Swedish politics, the development of political ideas, the moulding of opinion and behaviour of voters.
6: Administration
-This course treats the organisation of public administrtion on different levels in society as well as aspects on pover, government and development.
Course C: Method
- To give the student the necessary analytical tools that are needed to carry out political analysis.
- To study different scientific rules.
- The formation of concepts and model construction to illustrate other methodical considerations, that must also be considered by the trained political scientist.
- The study of quantitive and qualititive methods.
Course D: Independent Thesis.
- The idea behind an independent thesis is that the student formulates a number of questions which will be systematicly answered in the thesis.
- The students thesis will be opposed by another student and vice versa.

Written exams, seminars and group assignments.
Grading system: Fail, Pass or Honours.
