COURSE AIM
The aim of this course is to provide the basic knowledge about the theory and application of Operations Research techniques, i.e. the application of modern mathematical modelling techniques for planning and analysis of various unit operations in a system so that all these operations are executed in right time with optimal costs. During the course, applications of such techniques for the mineral and construction industries will be discussed.
CONTENTS
Problem modelling (5%): Introduction to Operations Research, different types of models, art of modelling-development and construction of models etc.
Linear programming (45%): Formulation and graphical solution of different types of optimisation problems, Simplex method, Revised simplex method, transportation model, integer linear programming.
Decision theory (5%): Decision under risk and uncertainty
Network problems (10%): Methods for formulating and solving network problems,
Queueing models: Basic elements of queuing model, queuing decision models application of queuing model in industries.
Simulation and queuing theory (20%): Introduction and application of simulation techniques for optimisation of various systems and unit operations.
Application of Operations research from concerned branch (15%).
