PREREQUISITES
ABT012 Rock Construction Engineering

COURSE AIM
The course gives the students a level of understanding whereby they - after an introduction period in the company - at a qualified level are able to participate in the design, planning and performance of work for mineral extraction in mines and quarries and also rock excavations. The course gives a background for the participation in the development of mining equipment techniques as well as education and research work within mining engineering.

CONTENTS
Ore extraction: Scrutinising mining methods such as sub level caving, block caving, open room methods with or without backfill, and also open pit mining with consideration given to techniques, ore loss/waste rock dilution, field of application, resource requirements as well as external and internal environment. Mining method selection. Development systematics. Project assignment: Planning mining operations with technical choices, based on economic, environmental, energy and prodouctivity aspects. Project methods with optimization calculation for technical choices, production volumes, expansion and operation times. For mines, metal content boundaries, ore losses and waste rock dilution are considered. Field work with mine visits. Field work with mine visits.

TEACHING
The teaching will include classroom lectures, home work/project work.

EXAMINATION
A written exam with differentiated grades. Written assignments and project assignment require the grade Passed.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: 3, 4, 5
