PREREQUISITES
COURSE AIM
To give the basic knowledge of Hydrology.
CONTENTS
The hydrological cycle: percipitation, water balance. Energy balance, radiation
Evaporation: measurements, the aerodynamic method, the energy balance method, the Penman method
Runoff: The rational method, the unit hydrograph, the S-hydrograph, the time-area method, the linear reservoir method
Ground water: Darcy«s law, hydraulic conductivity, steady one-dimensional flow in open and closed aquifers, flow nets, influence of wells
Ice and snow: snow-melt, ice growth in rivers and lakes, growth of crystals, snow physics, snowpack dynamics, measurements, drift of snow
Hydropower in Sweden: Discharge modelling, Design flood, Probable Maximum Flood
TEACHING
EXAMINATION
Participation in laborations is compulsory. The course is examined by a written test.
