PREREQUISITES
Basic biology and chemistry.

COURSE AIM
To give the participants basic and to some extent deeper knowledge and understanding of biology/ecology and knowledge about the different threats against the environment.

CONTENTS
General biology, cellbiology, systematics and taxonomy, biological structure and function. Basic ecological ideas; ecological concepts, autecology, ecology of populations, synecology, community ecology and structure and function of ecosystems. Environmental protection; air pollution, acidification of soil and water, eutrofication, toxicology and ecotoxicology. Threats against biological diversity. Agenda 21.

TEACHING

EXAMINATION
To pass the course all written examinations must be passed and project work completed. Excursions and practicals (laboratory work) are compulsory.
