University Certificate in Pre-School Education or in Leisure Education 100 p or equivalent.
COURSE AIM
ITEM 1. Development of content and working procedurs in pre-school and day-centre for school-age children.
The students should have advanced qualifications of basic acquisition of reading, writing and mathematical skills and be prepered to meet the changes in the society and new vocational demands.
ITEM 2. English
To have theoretical and practical knowledge of language learning.
To have understanding and knowledge of methods, that stimulate children in English for beginners.
To be able to strengthen the students« language structures, vocabulary and English - in school based on their observations of the language skills.
Develop the students«ability of communication.

CONTENTS
ITEM 1. Development of content and working procedurs in pre-school and day-centre for school-age children.
-Acquisition of reading, writing and mathematical skills, theories and methods about preparatory, basic and continued work.
-The concept and writing of numbers and the four rules of arithmetic.
-To be able to make pedagogical mathematical material in woodwork/methodology.
-The use of computer at pre-school and day-centre for school-age children
-in administration.
-in work with children.
-Theories and methods about how children develop and learn.
-Optional specialized work based on the goals, theories and field studies of the course.
ITEM 2. English.
-The approach of the curriculum and of the research in language learning.
-Concept formation and language learning in the pre-school, goals, means and methods,
-Qualifications of communication.
-The cultural heredity, intercultural understanding and social orientation of the English- speaking.
-Knowledge about songs, games and other means, that give skills to stimulate children in English for beginners.
-Content, teaching methods and working procedures in English education for compulsory comprehensive school.
-Language stimulaton for children with an other native language.

TEACHING
ITEM 1. Development of content and working procedurs in pre-school and day-centre for school-age children.
The teaching should be adjusted to and based on the students«previous knowledge and experiences and give futher in-depth knowledge. A problem-directed way of working should be used, where the students work independetly in small study groups. They should work with their own problems and problem-solving from the goals of the course.
ITEM 2. The teaching comprises lectures, joint presentations with discussions of the content of the course combined with practical, illustrative methodical examples and practices. Seminars and group discussions about the course literature and assignments will partly be in English.

EXAMINATION
ITEM 1. Development of content and working procedures in pre-school and day-centre for school-age children. Evaluation of literature seminars, study group assessments and also assessment of the specialized work.
ITEM 2. English.
Continuing evaluartions. Assessment of individual and group assignments. The students will also be graded on active participation in lessons, seminars and group discussions.
