PREREQUISITES
Elementary vector calculations and integrals.
COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to make the student so familiar with fundamental conceptions and methods within the field of mechanics and technics that he/she understands and can describe the course of everyday events and understands the function and construction of everyday technique. The course will also give knowledge of how science has influenced man's way of thinking and acting and it will be drawn up in a way that the didactic perspective will be clear. After having passed the course the student will be able to discuss scientific and technical problems from the comprehension of nine-year compulsory school pupils.
CONTENTS
The course will treat
- the connection between force, torque and motion
- work and energy for bodies in motion
- vibrations
- gravitation and motion of satellites
- basic hydromechanics
- evolution in mechanics
- construction principles for certain mechanisms
- analysis of the motion of mechanisms
- construction and design
TEACHING
In addition to lessons with theory explanation and problem solving the education consists of compulsory project works and laboratory experiments which will be accounted for orally or in writing. The way of working will be characterised by high student activity. Responsible for the part treating Mechanics is Anders Wåhlin and for the part treating Technics is Elisabet Kassfeldt.
EXAMINATION
Written examination at the end of the course.
