PREREQUISITES
First year mathematics or similar.

COURSE AIM
The course aims to give a basic knowledge about different computer aided tools and their use for modelling and solving mathematical problems. It will also give practical skill to use mathematical tools in different computer environments.

CONTENTS
Overview of tools, based on numerics, computer algebra etc. Short introduction to structured programming. Practical use of MATLAB and MAPLE. MATLAB: basic syntax and how to use it, buildt-in functions and operators, programming in Matlab, debugging, graphics, sparse matrices, import/export of data. MAPLE: basic syntax and how to use it, buildt-in functions and oerators, data-types, programming in Maple, graphics, algebrac versus numerical methods for problem solving.
