The POLARTECH conferences are established and jointly organized by major government institutions and industrial organizations from Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Norway and Sweden. The first conference was held in Helsinki in 1986.
The Fifth International Conference on Development and Commercial Utilization of Technologies in Polar Regions continues the series of biennial POLARTECH conferences. POLARTECH'94 in Luleå focuses on Infrastructure and Environmental Problems in Polar Regions.
These themes have become more and more important since interest in the exploration of natural resources in the polar regions has increased. The ongoing buildup of infrastructure in the Barents Sea area is only one example. In order not to create a conflict between nature and man's exploration more competence and understanding of special problems related to polar environment is of great importance.
In all, 60 technical papers have been accepted for presentation during plenary and technical sessions. We hope that the sessions will give you information on new and emerging technologies in the field of cold climate technology.
COLDTECH and Luleå University of Technology thank the invited speakers and all the authors for their cooperation and efforts, and institutions and companies who have contributed to the conference with economic and other support.
